Through holy missions and visits by the image of Our Lady – Commander of the Polish Soldier, the Roman Catholic Church is preparing its faithful to welcome (enter) the third millennium of Christianity. Such an undoubtedly distinctive opportunity for soldiers (as well as all "uniformed services"), on the eve of the 46th Eucharistic Congress and the pastoral visit of the Polish pope, John Paul II, to strengthen their faith and reflect on themselves was the stay of this image in the Bolesławiec garrison in mid-April.
The image—a replica (the original, funded by nine generals of the Second Polish Republic, is located at Jasna Góra)—travels among the garrisons of the Silesian Military District. It arrived in Bolesławiec from Świętoszów. After being welcomed by the garrison commander, Col. Stanisław Chwojnicki, PhD, accompanied by the honor guard, soldiers of the garrison units, police and fire service officers, numerous members of veterans' organizations, scouts, young people and clergy led by Prelates Władysław Rączka and Wojciech Mroszczak, the image was carried to the Garrison Church of Saints Cyril and Methodius. There, for the next three days, the faithful took part in the liturgical welcoming ceremony, Holy Masses, Jasna Góra Appeals and an overnight vigil. The farewell Holy Mass was celebrated by the dean of the Silesian Military District, Major January Wątroba. The image "continued on its journey" to Gubin.
