In fine weather, on 10 February of that year, the town’s residents ceremoniously brought the carnival to a close. At the head of the carnival revellers, on a special vehicle platform, Bürgermeister Rolf Krieger and Deputy Bürgermeister Franz Huhn, accompanied by Princess Helga I of Siegburg and Prince Christian I, greeted the numerous spectators gathered along the pavements.
The young people put on a varied programme, especially those from the secondary school (Anno-Gymnasium). The occasion was the 400th anniversary of their school. At the end of the performances, all the carnival participants on the platforms threw small gifts and plenty of sweets, especially for the children.
After the official performances and shows, everyone continued celebrating in cafés, restaurants and homes. They said goodbye with the phrase “see you next year”.
P.S. And what did the end of the carnival look like in Bolesławiec?
