Graduates of I Liceum Ogólnokształcące will remember for a long time the reunion organized to mark the School’s 50th anniversary. Approximately 900 former graduates and 200 guests took part in the celebrations, not counting former and current teachers. Ten of the 11 living members of the oldest year group attended!A solemn Holy Mass, a procession through the city, class reunions of former students, lunch at the Officers’ Casino and sporting competitions were just some of the day’s attractions. The artistic programme prepared by the students and Ms Maria Łużniak and Barbara Słaboń recalled the old days in a humorous and witty way... In the evening, around 750 people enjoyed a joint ball at the military unit; that the ball was a success was shown by the time people returned home – 9:00 a.m.There were moving moments when guards posted at the graves of deceased teachers reminded the living of the passing of life... and of the importance of preserving the memories of those who have passed away...The exhibitions at the Museum of Ceramics and at Bolesławiecki Ośrodek Kultury should also be mentioned. They presented the artistic achievements of graduates. Naturally, not all of them. The art exhibition included works by, among others, Jolanta Ajlikow-Czarnecka (a former LO teacher, now the director and organizer of her own art school), Krzysztof Abrzuzan (a teacher at the Fine Arts High School in Rzeszów and creator of the monument to A. Mickiewicz in Rzeszów and S. Żeromski in Mielec), Katarzyna Hałas-Łożykowska (a participant in the Ceramic and Sculpture Workshops in Bolesławiec and winner of second place in the nationwide Szkoło 95 competition) and Stanisława Wojdy-Pytlińska (honoured with the Badge of Merit for Cultural Activity and awarded by the Ministry of National Education and the Office of President of the Republic of Poland Lech Wałęsa). The beautiful paintings of the painter Elżbieta Woźniewska (currently living in Spain) must not be overlooked; her works delight not only connoisseurs.Graduates have also achieved a great deal in other fields. There are many doctors (for example, the excellent cardiologist Mr Andrzej Mytnik from Cieszyn and Ms Jadwiga Berduła-Koślińska from Bolesławiec), priests – Father Ryszard Soroka, Mirosław Wojtowicz and others. It is impossible to list everyone who has achieved professional success. The celebration concluded with an academic ceremony, which was also attended by guests from Siegburg – Mayor Rolf Krieger and grammar-school principal Peter Borner – as well as a 25-member big band (all students!!!).There were also birthday gifts, including the 24-volume Brockhaus encyclopedia, 100 pocket spelling dictionaries and a HENE laser with equipment worth 100 million old zlotys. Thanks to declarations and financial support from the city and municipal authorities and the School Superintendent’s Office, the foundations for the future hall were poured in mid-October 1996. Commemorative monographs of the School and a video cassette (available at LO) preserve these events and serve as a lasting reminder of what happened and what will remain in memory...
