On 5 December 1996, an awards ceremony for the winners of the Poetry Writing Competition was held at the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre in Kruszyn. Seven schools from our municipality took part in the competition: Bożejowice, Brzeźnik, Kraśnik Górny, Kraśnik Dolny, Trzebień, Żeliszów and Kruszyn. The committee, composed of Maria Sobolska – Polish teacher; Stanisława Zięcik – Polish teacher; and Ryszard Adam Gruchawka – contemporary poet, assessed approximately 40 entries and decided to award: In the poetry category: First place: Magdalena Ochyra from Kruszyn. Second place: Gabriela Młot from Trzebień. Third place: Łukasz Jurasik from Kruszyn. In the short-story category: First place: Adrian Chabiniak from Żeliszów. Second place: Małgorzata Kaprawy from Żeliszów. Third place: Aneta Kuśmierz from Kraśnik Dolny. Honourable mentions: Wioletta Dul from Brzeźnik, Ula Rzeźwicka from Brzeźnik, Barbara Kleśta from Bożejowice and Helena Pawłowska from Brzeźnik. The prizes, funded by the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre, were presented personally by the poet Ryszard Gruchawka, who shared his work with the young people. Mr Ryszard’s humorous poems were so well received that, after the meeting, a long queue formed for his autograph.
