Dear Editorial Office! Please publish my letter in response to the criticism published in issue 18/103 of the weekly “Łużyce”. Ms D. Staszewska and Mr M. Kirszen probably “came from abroad” or “fell from the moon”; they are impeccably clean and have had nothing to do with the former “disgusting” PRL. They have the moral right to condemn the people of that period.
The activities of editor P. Śliwka do not offend me, because, on the same principle, the majority of people in Poland should be condemned, for example: generals, officers, directors, engineers, professors, historians and other “consolidators” of people’s power. They all acquired knowledge and worked for the good of the Homeland – People’s Poland.
They should cast aside their diplomas, certificates and achievements and start everything from the beginning. During that bygone period, these people were decorated for their merits, and I do not know a single person who refused or did not accept a distinction – after all, they deserved it!!! They worked for People’s Poland.
Today, some of them have retained their positions, and your editor, Mr Kirszen, does not attack them?!
The editor of the weekly “Łużyce” writes that Unia Wolności had to pay for the advertisement published in “Głos”. Why did UW have to advertise its presidential candidate in such a poor newspaper, badly edited by a bad editor? If this newspaper (“Głos”), as Mr Kirszen writes, is so poor, who forced Unia Wolności to place an advertisement there? I assume that the agreed advertising price was negotiated before it was published in “Głos”. The gentlemen from SLD probably negotiated more effectively for the advertisement for Aleksander Kwaśniewski.
The respected editor of “Łużyce” will not stop in his efforts to harm our local newspaper, “GB”. In whose name does he do this? Perhaps in the name of Christian values? Perhaps to increase the readership of “Łużyce”? Or perhaps to eliminate “Głos” from the press market? And out of pure envy that “Głos” has already been published for five years and received a subsidy from the Municipal Office in 1995?
I do not know whether everyone is aware that almost all local newspapers throughout Poland are subsidized by Municipal Offices. Probably most councillors on those councils belong to Unia Wolności, and then everything is all right? Is “Głos” the only subsidized publication? What about the Local Television? And no one objects? Is the amount for TV “horrendously high”? That much money for an hour and a half of programming??? And we know that it is subordinate to the Local Government...
Why is the distribution of newspapers in private kiosks illegal? What kind of monopoly has the company (Ruch) established? Soon this company will decide which newspapers we are to read!! What do the gentlemen from Unia Wolności say about this? What kind of freedom is that?!?
I assume that my voice will not be heard and will have no effect, because some people recognize no arguments and believe what they themselves want to believe. But I wrote this so that you would know that not everyone thinks like you, and that “Głos” is read by people who care about Bolesławiec.
