It was made by the potter Johann Gattlieb Joppe, who came to Bolesławiec from Muskan in 1751. The pot’s height was 2.5 m, its circumference 3.24 m, and its capacity 165 l. It could hold 30 bushels of peas. It would still be an attraction for tourists today had it not been smashed by soldiers in 1945.
The photograph shows the pot being moved in 1983 from its first permanent location to the pond beside the walking path.
Earlier, before it was fired and removed from the potter’s wheel, it stood in a small building by Reinhold’s Pottery. The building was demolished because of the increasing traffic nearby. From 1909, the pot was housed in the Regional Museum in Bolesławiec.
