The appeal was sent to all workplaces, cooperatives, companies and wholesalers, to most shops, as well as to doctors, teachers, lawyers, craftspeople and people representing other professions.
The more active members of the Towarzystwo Miłośników Bolesławca attempted, in a printed leaflet, to convince the city’s residents of the need to support activities for the benefit of the city: they could join the ranks of the Society and try to revive it through their own activity; they could deposit any contribution, however modest, into the TMB account.
The funds raised from contributions were intended, among other things, to publish a folder—or an album—about the city, so sorely lacking in our souvenir shops. The enthusiasts from TMB also dreamed of publishing a local newspaper.
The first to respond spontaneously and kindly to the appeal were: photographer Lucjan Rewers, physician Zbigniew Myśliński, craftspeople Stanisław Musiał and Józef Danielewicz, and representatives of Bolesławiec’s trade sector, A. and R. Swicowie, Henryk Jaskowski, Ryszard Klapa and Janina Korol. Some paid larger contributions, others smaller ones—it does not matter. As one of the supporters said, “today, more than ever, we must help one another. After all, this is our city—how could its affairs not concern us?”
Encouraged by this attitude among the residents, TMB activists began visiting the owners of wholesalers, shops and companies, explaining the Society’s aims and needs. The results of this mission were mostly heartening, showing that there are still good, and even generous, people in our city. The most kind and generous so far has proved to be Zdzisław Oszczęda, who donated an amount for social and cultural purposes that no one has yet managed to “outbid.”
The next issue of “Głos Bolesławca” may appear in June. Anyone who wishes may write—an article, complaint, compliment, anecdote, literary work, and so on—the editorial team is not closed. On the contrary: the more writers there are, the richer the newspaper may be in content and form. Anyone who wishes may place an advertisement (prices negotiable). And whoever wishes—and is able—may sponsor it.
And to all those who helped publish the first issue of “Głos Bolesławca” by writing articles without remuneration or paying contributions to support its publication (the list of donors appears in the article “Who Loves Bolesławiec”), I extend my heartfelt thanks on behalf of TMB and myself.
At the same time, on behalf of the technical editor, I sincerely apologize to the Authors—especially those with diabetes—whose publications we were unable to include in today’s issue of “Głos.” We promise to do better.
