In August, the parish joined in commemorating important national events. Recalling acts of heroism and noble uprisings, people asked God to help overcome evil with good, both within us and around us, in the present as well.
Some parishioners, particularly young people, took part in the nationwide walking pilgrimage to Częstochowa. In addition, the feast of 15 August—the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary—was celebrated more solemnly. The parishioners were aware that their neighbouring church in the Market Square was celebrating its patronal feast, while many faithful were also gathering for the same reason at the sanctuary in Krzeszów near Kamienna Góra.
At the end of August, the feast of Our Lady of Częstochowa fell on a Friday. Since it was a regular working day, Holy Masses were celebrated in the chapel at 7:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., and at 9:00 a.m. in Łąka, which also belongs to the parish. On Saturday, 27 August, a coach pilgrimage set out for Częstochowa. This pilgrimage was a sign of gratitude on the anniversary of Mary’s peregrination in a copy of the miraculous Image through the parishes of the Bolesławiec deanery.
In August, the pastoral ministry also continued its work with young people. Among other things, on 28 August at 4:00 p.m., a meeting was organised for those who had taken part in the pilgrimages to Częstochowa. The meeting was also attended by young people who were planning to take part in the world youth gathering due to be held in Wrocław at the turn of 1995.
Preparations for the construction of the parish church were also not neglected in August. Work on the warehouse intended for building materials and tools was completed. Fr. Prelate Władysław Rączka made a significant contribution by supplying materials for roofing the warehouse. The purchase of the first building materials was gradually begun. The church caretaker from Łąka raised the altar in the temporary chapel, while anonymous workers made benches there. In August, plans were also obtained for the parish church that was to be built on the estate. This latest achievement filled everyone with great joy.
September brought the nearby school into closer connection with the parish. The religious-education timetable was given to children and young people in their classrooms. It turned out that at Primary School No. 6, two female catechists and one male catechist taught religious education, while at General Secondary School No. 2 it was taught by the parish priest. The parish priest also took direct responsibility for preparing children for First Holy Communion and Confirmation. That month, the schoolbags and school supplies of first-graders were blessed, and they were wished perseverance and good academic results.
In the pastoral work of September, alongside the traditional celebration of Holy Masses and hearing confessions, attention was paid to the first Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the month. On the first Saturday, the bedridden sick were visited and given the sacraments. On the first Sunday of the month, the faithful were reminded of the need to adore the Blessed Sacrament; this was conducted collectively for everyone for several minutes after each Holy Mass.
Rev. Andrzej Gidziński, MA, the parish priest, did not neglect his work with the various groups associated with the parish. He led meetings with young people, an area in which he clearly specialised. Every week he organised meetings for altar servers and aspirants. On Fridays, he gathered children and young people for a devotional service to the Blood of Christ, assisted by one of the nuns from the local congregation on Zgorzelecka Street. He also developed activities with organised Rosary prayer groups.
During the period in question, the parish also promoted reading the Catholic press and publications. With the participation of their pastor, parishioners subscribed to the weekly Niedziela. A very interesting book devoted to the Rosary was also distributed.
