Under this heading, the 4th Silesian Regional Meetings were held in Opole on November 25 this year. Representatives of regional societies from across Silesia, understood in the historical sense, took part. Activists from Zaolzie were also present. The Bolesławiec Enthusiasts’ Society was represented by Zdzisław Mirecki, MSc.
The meeting served to demonstrate, among other things, the regional distinctiveness and specificity of Silesia. It was also an opportunity to present the economic, cultural and scientific achievements of the post-war half-century. The papers, including one entitled “Silesia – a Basin of Cultures,” were interesting.
The conclusions for the regional movement were presented by Wrocław resident Anatol Omelaniuk, chairman of the National Council of Regional Cultural Societies. Meanwhile, Opole Voivode Ryszard Zembaczyński, who has roots in Jelenia Góra, linked the country’s progress, among other things, to the implementation of the principles contained in the “Charter of Polish Regionalism,” adopted at the 5th Congress of Regional Cultural Societies.
To conclude the event, a concert was held at the philharmonic to mark the 25th anniversary of the Opole Cultural and Educational Society. The concert featured the best amateur ensembles from the Opole region.
