The International Chess Tournament, organized as part of the Bolesławiec Chess Festival celebrations, was held on May 24 at the seat of the District Starosty Office. Thirty chess players from Przemków, Chojnów, Legnica, Lubomierz, Lwówek Śląski, Gryfów, Zgorzelec, Tomaszów Bolesławiecki, Łagów and Bolesławiec took part in the competition.
Here are the names of the winners in the individual age categories:
- in the under-12 category – Katarzyna Bańbura and Kacper Grela
- in the 13–15 category – Patrycja Matusiewicz and Jacek Iwanicki
- in the 16–18 category – Elwira Kupisz and Mateusz Chrobot
- in the 19–60 category – Marian Barabasz
- in the over-61 category – Jerzy Pudło
In the men's overall classification, Marian Barabasz won, while in the women's overall classification, Partycja Matusiewicz took first place and also won the title of the best female player in Powiat Boleslawiecki. Paweł Wodas was named the best chess player in the district. Kazimierz Sikora from Bolesławiec received a special award.
A chess simultaneous exhibition was also held that day at Piłsudski Square. Eleven players faced grandmaster Monika Krupa. Two of them (Zbigniew Kaźmierski and Krzysztof Grela) managed to draw. The others had to acknowledge the superiority of the outstanding chess player.
Unfortunately, the chess competition did not attract the interest of Bolesławiec residents. The event was attended only by the people taking part in it.
