The Charity Indoor Football Tournament was held on 1 May in the sports hall at I Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Bolesławiec. The event was organized by the Federation of Young Social Democrats.
Four teams took part in the tournament: the Fire Brigade, LZS Łaziska, Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Zawodowych and FMS. The players from Łaziska won the competition, defeating the Fire Brigade team in the final. The players from ZSOiZ finished third after beating the organizers’ team. Andrzej Skrzypek of LZS Łaziska was named the best goalkeeper, while Krzysztof Milko of the Fire Brigade team was named the best player.
Thanks to the support of all the teams, the organizers managed to raise over one thousand zlotys for the treatment of Emilka, who is ill. However, the players supported the 15-year-old from Zebrzydowa in more than just a material way: “We are pleased that we managed to raise money that will certainly help with Emilka’s treatment. We support her not only with our symbolic donations, but also with our full commitment, joyful smiles and the wonderful atmosphere in the hall, which I hope will reach her and her parents and give them strength to continue fighting the disease,” says Michał Banaś, chairman of FMS in Bolesławiec and a tournament participant.
Other players were also convinced that the tournament’s cause was noble. “I am glad that I was able to help Emilka in some way and, at the same time, spend a pleasant time competing with other teams for victory,” emphasizes Dariusz Walęga.
FMS activists did not choose 1 May as the tournament date by chance. In their view, the day reminds people of important values. “1 May is a workers’ holiday, a holiday of the left, which must show its social sensitivity through initiatives like this. I hope that every day we will be able to do more for people such as Emilia Kowalik—people who may not manage without social support,” says Paweł Zieliński, FMS secretary and the event’s organizer.
