The opening of the “Discovery” exhibition took place on 26 April. The exhibition presents works by Jerzy Rosołowicz, Alfons Mazurkiewicz and other artists active in the “X” group and the “Wrocław School.” In the 1960s and 1970s, Wrocław artists formed one of the most important centres of Polish protest art. The displayed works come from the collection of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre. Some of them have not previously been shown to a wide audience.

The works by the Wrocław artists can be viewed in the Długa Gallery, housed in the newly renovated Forum cinema building. “These are timeless works. They are also part of Bolesławiec’s history. These works were purchased by the then director of the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre,” says Radosław Gajewski, the exhibition curator. “And he made an excellent investment. These works enhance the status of the entire city,” he adds.

The first exhibition after a two-year break also shows the direction in which the Długa Gallery will develop. The Bolesławiec Cultural Centre intends to present the latest artistic trends and ideas in Poland. “But, of course, there will also be room here for local artists,” notes Radosław Gajewski.
