From 19 to 23 April, the “Train to History” will be stationed at the railway station in Bolesławiec. It is a multimedia exhibition housed in the carriages of a historic train pulled by a steam locomotive from 1918.
The exhibition presents the most important events in the post-war history of the western territories. The historical and cultural heritage of the communities living in these areas is presented through modern and engaging formats, such as multimedia presentations, a computer game, a quiz, historical exhibits, and copies of authentic documents, newspapers and posters from the period.
The train visits selected towns for several days. During its stay, the exhibition is open to visitors, who can take part in its accompanying educational and cultural programme, including “living history” lessons for schools, film screenings and evenings of reminiscence for local residents.
One of the foundations of the exhibition is the accounts of ordinary people who witnessed or took part in important events that occurred in western Poland in recent decades. For this reason, visitors can bring their own memorabilia, such as photographs and documents, to a specially adapted carriage to have them copied. The copies will then be added to the archive of the “Memory and Future” Centre as part of the year-round “Witnesses of History” programme.
This form of exhibition is intended to reach as many people as possible and, through its educational programme, to spark interest in historical subjects. It is the first exhibition project of Wrocław’s “Memory and Future” Centre. Last year, the train visited three stations: Malczyce, Jelcz-Laskowice and Wałbrzych. It also stopped in Wrocław.
The exhibition will be open to visitors from 19 to 23 April, from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:30 to 19:00. On the first day, the train will exceptionally be open from 12:00 to 19:00. The ticket price is PLN 1. The event in our town is co-organised by the Bolesławiec Museum of Ceramics.
