A fire broke out at the primary school in Wierzbowa (Bolesławiec County) on Tuesday before midnight. Six fire engines took part in extinguishing the fire. The attic burned down completely, while the ground floor of the building was flooded during the firefighting operation. Computer equipment, documentation and class registers were saved.

Residents of Wierzbowa are convinced that someone set fire to the school. In a conversation with the Boleslawiec.org portal, they said that this was already the fourth fire in their village in the past two weeks.

The losses caused by the fire at the school will be substantial, as the entire roof, including the rafters, will have to be replaced. It is not known what will happen to the building when the water that seeped into the walls during the operation freezes. As school principal Wanda Buczkowska says, the head of Gromadka Municipality has promised assistance and a prompt renovation.

A total of 71 children attended the school and the preschool, which was also located in the burned building.
