On Saturday, the TOP Bolesławiec volleyball players played another match in the I LO sports hall. Their opponents were Ikar II Legnica. Despite their young age, the players from Legnica are third in the IV-league table. This was Bolesławiec’s penultimate home match at this stage of the competition.
The first set suggested that Bogusław Mienculewicz’s players were in for a good performance. From the very beginning, TOP dictated the terms of play. It started with an effective block by Mateusz Świerzewski. Paweł Rutkowski served confidently, resulting in service aces. Bolesławiec received well and made few errors. Marcin Czarniecki’s assured setting contributed significantly to the 25:15 score in favor of our players.
The second set was a “point-for-point” battle. The players from Legnica did not want to give up for even a moment. At the beginning of the set, they managed to gain a small lead, but they could not hold on to it until the end. TOP’s nervous finish led to a long exchange of points. Ikar even had set points, but the Bolesławiec players ultimately showed character and won the second set 29:27.
The third set was a test for both teams. TOP controlled the game from the start, but toward the end our volleyball players began to quickly lose points and their lead. Wojciech Marcinkiewicz came on for Sławomir Potocki, who had not had a particularly successful performance, and scored several powerful and effective points against the opponent. The finish was as exciting as in the second set, although it was not as long. The set ended 27:25 in favor of Bolesławiec. TOP captain Piotr Kozłowski deserves words of recognition for playing a very good match despite having been ill earlier!
What can be inferred from such a performance? The team is much more mature than last season, the players are still developing and are showing increasingly effective play. What was missing in this match? In several instances, good setting, reception and concentration in defensive play. More effective serving and support from the fans were also missing. Although there were many of them, they cheered only occasionally. For most of the match, the hall was quiet, and surely no player enjoys that kind of atmosphere.
