In the 10th edition of the competition, the Minister of the Environment awarded the title of “Leader of Polish Ecology 2007” to 11 entities and granted 12 distinctions. A total of 131 applications were submitted. The application submitted by the City of Lubań concerned the activities of the Lubań Urban Municipality aimed at improving environmental protection, with particular emphasis on water and wastewater management.
The competition was conducted in stages. During the final stage, three leading cities were visited: Lubań, Częstochowa and Wągrowiec. The inspectors viewed the entire city, including the wastewater treatment plant, landfill, Regional Ecological Centre, PEC’s straw-fired heating plant, parks, the old town, basalt quarries, and residential districts—the Kamienna Góra area and the Piast housing estate.
The Leader of Polish Ecology is the largest and most important ecology competition in Poland. The award of the title shows potential investors that they can be confident, for example, in the environmental protection infrastructure, while potential tourists and residents can be assured that they will find a beautiful and clean corner here.
