If, while walking through the streets of our town or a nearby locality, you pass places that inevitably remind you of your childhood—special places that bring back events from years ago (many or few)—share with others what is dear and valuable to you; what you would like to save from oblivion.

Time changes the surroundings we know. Yet small traces of bygone days remain—places recognised by you and known only to you from your past. We want to place on a map of our town and nearby localities a network of residents’ memories; to give this space a deeply personal meaning.

This special map, enriched with your memories, will preserve for future generations the significant details that help create the atmosphere of the streets we know, school playing fields, the town woodland or meadows along the river. It will save fleeting emotions, brief moments and small events that shape our lives in our places.

We therefore invite you to take part in a special undertaking—the project entitled “Our Places”, addressed to all residents of our town and county, regardless of their age or how long they have lived in these areas.

Those wishing to present their own memories and reflections are asked to do so in literary form—in prose (a text of up to three pages of standard A4 print). Entries may be sent by 30 November 2007 to: Literary Workshops, Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury im. Stanisława Wyspiańskiego, ul. Grunwaldzka 5, 59-700 Bolesławiec.

Please attach a brief author profile to your texts (first name, surname, residential address and contact telephone number); please also state your age and write a few words about yourself. Selected works will be published in a publication prepared by the MDK Literary Workshops, which will be presented in the second half of December this year.

As part of the “Our Places” project, Młodzieżowy Dom Kultury also invites everyone interested to take part in art workshops conducted by the MDK art studios (stained glass, graphics and ceramics), and to join the activities of the vocal studio, which is preparing a Christmas carol concert.
