The opening of the “Forms and People” exhibition took place on September 12 at the Museum of Ceramics. Only two of the artists were present at the opening – Grzegorz Sidorowicz and Marek Zyga (Jacek Pałka, the author of, among other works, books about Bazylek, currently lives in Canada). The opening was enhanced by a performance by three musicians from Obstawy Prezydenta.
“Forms and People” is an exhibition of the work of three artists who represent different fields of art. Jacek Pałka represents words, literature and poetry; Grzegorz Sidorowicz, photography; and Marek Zyga, sculpture.
Marek Zyga is self-taught. He has been sculpting for three years. “Forms and People” is his first exhibition. The works collected at the Bolesławiec museum come from the last two years. Nevertheless, they show none of a debutant’s awkwardness. On the contrary – they are highly mature. Zyga’s sculptures are made of grog clay. They are decorated faces, or rather masks. They are unsigned, which makes them universal. When asked by Anna Bober-Tubaj whether he would sell his works, the Bolesławiec sculptor replied: “I don’t want to part with them.”
Grzegorz Sidorowicz draws inspiration, among other sources, from the works of Czech artist Jan Saudek. His photographic guru, meanwhile, is Wojciech Zawadzki, a master of elementary photography (which precisely reproduces the state of nature). Sidorowicz works exclusively with analog photography. He realizes that he is in the minority. Nevertheless, as he himself noted, this kind of photography will never disappear.
He has been photographing consciously for 25 years. “I am primarily interested in technically perfect photography, elementary photography,” Grzegorz Sidorowicz told the Boleslawiec.org portal. – “But at times I move away from it.” At the Bolesławiec exhibition, however, the artist presented primarily portraits: of tattooed, unconventional people. People who, after all, also wear masks.
The works of Grzegorz Sidorowicz and Marek Zyga are brought together and commented on by words – Jacek Pałka’s texts. Sometimes mocking, sometimes bitter. Written after he had emigrated, especially for this exhibition.
The artists plan to show this exhibition in several cities in Poland and abroad. The “Forms and People” exhibition is to be presented, among other places, in Jelenia Góra, Inowrocław, Zgorzelec and – possibly – Germany.
