Former mayor Józef Burniak won a defamation lawsuit against Dariusz Mucha, author of the book “Samorząd dla mas”. Dariusz Mucha wrote about Burniak’s alleged criminal record. The District Court in Bolesławiec found that Dariusz Mucha had defamed the former mayor, waived the imposition of a penalty, but ordered him to pay PLN 2,500 in compensation to the injured party.
“I do not want to comment on this matter because I will be filing an appeal,” the former mayor told Boleslawiec.org. Józef Burniak sought Dariusz Mucha’s conviction, an apology, PLN 10,000 in compensation, the forfeiture of the entire print run of the book, and for the income obtained to date from its sale to be allocated to a social cause.
“I am waiting for the reasoning of the judgment; afterwards I will decide on any further possible steps,” Dariusz Mucha told us.
The judgment is not final.
