The Saxon Office for Rural Areas in Miltitz organizes two competitions every year as part of the Saxon Harvest Festival celebrations: an art competition for children and young people, and a photography competition for seniors. They are very popular among residents of Saxony and beyond.

For several years, Polish and Czech participants have also been invited to take part in these events. The Lubań-based “Pogranicze” association, a long-standing partner of the Saxon Office, helps organize and promote the competitions on the Polish side.

On 8 September 2007, the jury selected the authors of the most beautiful drawings and photographs. Residents of Bolesławiec were among the winners of both competitions. In the photography competition for seniors, to which nearly one hundred authors submitted as many as 165 photographs, Stanisław Graczyk received an award. The Bolesławiec resident was recognized for his work entitled “The Debater.”

The Bolesławiec winners of the art competition for children and young people were: Michał Bednarski, a pupil at Primary School No. 5 (MZS No. 1), and Julianna Sikorska, a pupil at the 1st Private Lower Secondary School. Their drawings were selected from among 300 competition entries. The awards were presented to the winners on 22 September, during the 10th Saxon Harvest Festival, held in Frankenberg.
