The new leadership was elected on August 16. Michał Banaś (a student at I LO) was elected chairman for a two-year term. The position of secretary was entrusted to Paweł Zieliński, who is also the student council president at the Complex of General and Vocational Schools on Komuny Paryskiej Street.
"I would like to thank my female and male colleagues very much for the tremendous vote of confidence they have given me, especially since I have only been a member of the Federation of Young Social Democrats for a short time," says Michał Banaś. "I joined because I was impressed by what young people in this organization do for ordinary people. Now that I have become chairman, I would like everything that FMS has done in Bolesławiec so far to continue. I would also like to attract as many young people as possible who are not afraid to act and help in our beautiful city!" Banaś adds.
Former chairman Daniel Biernat resigned from the position, which he had held continuously for three years. The reason is a contract he signed with one of the companies in Copenhagen. "I am going to see what normal life in a normal country looks like," Daniel Biernat jokes. "I am leaving FMS in good hands. In the age of the internet, distance is not an obstacle for me at all. I will still participate—perhaps a little less actively—in the activities of the youth organization, where I have many friends and to which I am very attached," the former chairman adds. "I am not planning to leave permanently. I will come back here!" he laughs.
The Federation of Young Social Democrats in Bolesławiec was established on April 2, 2004. FMS is a nationwide association bringing together people aged 16 to 30 who hold left-wing and center-left political views. In Bolesławiec, FMS is known primarily for organizing numerous charitable initiatives: school supply drives, trips for children to an aquapark, honorary blood donation campaigns, as well as political events, including many meetings and debates with well-known politicians.
