The two confiscated 100-euro banknotes had been forged with great professionalism. To divert attention, they had been slightly damaged. They looked washed out. The 22-year-old managed to pay with one of the counterfeit banknotes at a Tesco petrol station. However, the vigilant station employee found the money suspicious. Therefore, he refused to accept payment when the young Bolesławiec resident attempted to put the second forged banknote into circulation. Employees at two other petrol stations, where the man tried to spend the second counterfeit, did the same. The police were notified.
The detained 22-year-old identified the 16-year-old as the person from whom he had received the forged banknotes. The 16-year-old, in turn, claims that he got them from his parents, who sell cigarettes along Route 4. The teenager had previously broken the law, including committing robbery. The police are investigating all aspects of the case. Both Bolesławiec residents could spend up to 10 years behind bars.
