On Sunday at around 6:00 p.m., police officers from Złotoryja noticed a Renault Laguna whose driver was traveling at 125 km/h in an area where the speed limit was 40 km/h. The officers began a pursuit. Although the driver must have seen the flashes of the police beacon and heard the siren, he did not stop. He headed for the A-4 motorway. Several times, he overtook cars in prohibited areas.
The pursuing officers followed the fleeing driver onto the motorway. At times, the Renault reached speeds of up to 200 km/h. The officers called traffic police patrolling a section of the motorway ahead of the fleeing vehicle for assistance. Seeing two police cars, the driver of the Laguna abandoned his further escape.
The fugitive turned out to be a 22-year-old resident of Bolesławiec. He told the officers that he had fled because he did not have a driver’s license or a registration certificate. The police established that the car belonged to another man, who had handed it over to the detainee so that he could carry out minor repairs.
The detainee was taken into police custody. He will now be held responsible for creating a direct risk of a disaster in road traffic. He will also face charges for driving without the required authorization and failing to stop for inspection.
