The Polish Open Racketlon Cup 2007 was held in Zgierz last weekend. More than one hundred male and female competitors took part in the tournament. They competed in five categories: women’s singles, men’s singles and doubles events—men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles. The racketlon tournament was held at the modern “Stacja Nowa Gdynia” sports facility in Zgierz near Łódź. The Bolesławiec residents can consider the championships a great success. They won four medals: three gold and one bronze.

Krystyna Szwajkowska achieved a double success, winning two gold medals. In the women’s singles, Szwajkowska defended her Polish champion title for the third time. In the semifinal, the Bolesławiec player defeated the 2005 Polish runner-up, Sylwia Borek (Nowy Sącz). In the final, our competitor gave Magda Kamińska from Bogatynia no chance. In mixed doubles, Krystyna Szwajkowska and Jacek Szubert also took first place. In the final, Krystyna and Jacek defeated the pair of Paweł Kozłowski and Sylwia Borek (Warsaw/Nowy Sącz) by more than 30 points. Our pair won successively in table tennis, badminton and squash.

In the doubles event, Norbert Stolicki and Krzysztof Samonek defeated Rafał Rykowski and Krzysztof Burbo (Wrocław/Bogatynia) in the final, winning another gold medal for TOP Bolesławiec. Norbert Stolicki also won a bronze medal in the individual event. Maciej Mazur, a junior from TOP Bolesławiec, made his debut at the tournament in Zgierz. Maciek competed in the open category and won the first three events: table tennis, badminton and squash. Unfortunately, our debutant was two points short in the tennis event, which caused him to be eliminated from further competition. TOP Bolesławiec’s racketlon players will compete next in July (German Open) and August (London Open).
