Last weekend, the International Classification Tournament for People with Disabilities in table tennis was held in Piešťany, Slovakia. The competitors included table tennis players seeking to compete at the Beijing Olympics. Waldemar Krzemiński of TOP Bolesławiec and Mirosław Kowalski of Radom represented Poland in the sixth disability category. After three days of competition, our representatives won the bronze medal, defeating the World Championship bronze medalists—the Netherlands—in the team event.
The Poles achieved this success thanks to Waldemar Krzemiński’s outstanding performance, as he defeated much higher-ranked opponents: Nick Block and Harold Kersten. In the individual tournament, Waldemar Krzemiński reached the quarterfinals. The Bolesławiec player earned more points and is getting closer to competing in the 2008 Olympics.
