The City Council will elect a total of 20 lay judges to the District Court in Bolesławiec (10 of them will hear labor-law cases) and 12 lay judges to the Regional Court in Jelenia Góra (3 people will hear labor-law cases). The list of candidates, appointed for the 2008–2011 term, will be reviewed and submitted to the Council by a team composed of members of the Health, Family and Social Affairs Committee.

A candidate for lay judge, together with the application form, is required to submit:

  • 3 recent photographs
  • information from the National Criminal Register
  • a statement that no criminal proceedings are pending against them
  • a medical certificate confirming the absence of contraindications to performing the duties of a lay judge.

Lay judges may be selected from among Polish citizens who are at least 30 but no older than 70. At least secondary education is required. Among others, police officers, judges, advocates and legal advisers, clergy, and soldiers may not serve as lay judges. Applications from candidates for lay judge positions will be accepted until the end of June by the Municipal Office Organizational Unit (Town Hall, first floor, rooms 121/122).
