The incident occurred on Friday, October 21, at the intersection of Wesoła and Dolne Młyny streets, next to the headquarters of the State Fire Service. The 19-year-old resident of Bolesławiec, driving an Opel, entered the intersection from Dolne Młyny Street (from the direction of the town centre) and collided with an Audi travelling along the main road. As a result of the collision, the Opel mounted the pavement, knocked down a sign and hit a 34-year-old man who was walking along the pavement. Firefighters provided assistance to the injured man. The injured pedestrian was taken to hospital. The man has broken limbs. He is conscious and his life is not in danger.
The same Opel driver had caused a collision with a red Volkswagen shortly beforehand in the car park in front of a Carrefour store. The Opel driver left the scene and went on to cause the further collision and hit the pedestrian described above. The car driven by the 19-year-old had Bolesławiec registration plates, but with different numbers. Witnesses to the incident claim that the young Opel driver was behaving strangely and may have been under the influence of drugs.
The police are determining the details of the incident. Tests will show whether the 19-year-old was under the influence of drugs.
