On Saturday, October 8, our volleyball players appeared before their home crowd for the first time this season. “Elektryczni” took on the leaders of the second-league table, SPS Chrobry Głogów. A surprise was very nearly on the cards. In the first set, the newcomers lost 21:25 to the experienced second-league side. But in the second set, the players from the City of Ceramics showed that their promotion to the second league was no accident. We won that set 25:22.
The visiting team again came out on top in the third set (we lost 18:25). Importantly, halfway through the set, Artur Sławnikowski, the “Elektryczni” setter and captain, suffered a shoulder injury. He was replaced by Jakub Koncewicz. Our team showed incredible character and won the fourth set 25:21, forcing a tie-break in which, unfortunately, Chrobry’s players were again better (15:9).
“It was a difficult opponent. We are happy with the historic point in our debut; things can only get better from here,” comments Jacek Łuczkowski, head of the Bolesławiec Volleyball Association. “We lost because of our lack of experience,” says Marcin Sobczyszyn, coach of “Elektryczni.” “In the tie-break, we started losing points, the team from Głogów pulled away, and in such a short set it is difficult to make up the deficit. But we took on a strong team with a really high budget and quality players. Chrobry’s players must be very surprised. It seems they came to Bolesławiec expecting to take three points, but in two sets we managed to use our serves to push them away from the net. We are happy with the historic point. I will not hide it: every point is worth its weight in gold.
“The whole team deserves praise,” adds M. Sobczyszyn. “I am grateful to them for taking up the fight and not being intimidated by the more experienced players on the other side of the net.
Thanks to the point earned in the match against SPS Chrobry Głogów, “Elektryczni” moved from seventh to sixth place in Group Four of the second league. Our lineup was: Mateusz Świerzewski, Wojciech Nitecki, Artur Sławnikowski, Rafał Wójtowicz, Damian Śliwiński, Dariusz Tkaczuk, Filip Michalewski, Jakub Koncewicz, Łukasz Mesjasz, Robert Walkowiak, Maciej Jaroni, Paweł Kozłowski, Kamil Razik and Przemysław Mszal.
