It is extremely important that young members of the local community know where they come from and what the history of the place where they live is. The ability to acquire this knowledge is important, and one way to do so is by talking to people who have contributed to the history and culture of the region. The aim of the workshop was to show young people that knowledge passed on by experienced and distinguished individuals is highly valuable because it helps save our local heritage from being forgotten. During the classes, participants learned about the process of organizing such meetings so that in the future they could take the initiative themselves and become regional memory leaders who would care for our regional history.

The first part of the workshop was organized on September 9. On that day, preparatory classes were held during which participants learned the strategy for organizing and conducting a meeting and developed their interviewing skills based on a historian’s methods. The students became familiar with the profiles of the people invited to the meeting and prepared questions they wanted to ask the guests.

The second part of the project took place on September 12. Invited guests, representatives of the local community, came to meet the students. They were: Mrs. Stanisława Kwiatkowska – the long-serving headteacher of the School in Kruszyn; Mrs. Irena Szoka – chairwoman of the Rural Housewives’ Circle; Mrs. Danuta Siodłak – one of the first residents of post-war Kruszyn; and Mrs. Lidia Beucher with her husband – the current owners of the Palace in Kruszyn.

During the second part of the workshop, the students took on the role of hosts and efficiently conducted a meeting entitled “Let Us Save Our History.” The questions prepared for the occasion concerned life in the post-war village, the work of the school and the Rural Housewives’ Circle; participants could also learn many interesting facts about the secrets hidden by the historic Palace, once almost completely ruined and now restored to its former glory. The invited guests and participants were able to view a presentation and old photographs of Kruszyn archived in the library.

The meeting with the guests was recorded and will soon be available on a specially prepared website. The workshop was conducted for class 6 of the School and Preschool Complex at the Public Library in Kruszyn by Agata Żukowska and Sebastian Zielonka.
