On Saturday (6 August), the first-round match of the Regional Polish Cup was played in Iwiny. The hosts, who play in Class A, faced fourth-tier newcomers GKS Warta Bolesławiecka. There was no surprise. The visitors defeated the hosts, although it was the hosts who scored the opening goal of the match. Kamil Kowalewski, who deceived a defender and beat the visiting goalkeeper with a powerful shot, opened the scoring. Had the hosts converted another earlier one-on-one chance, it could have been 2–0. However, the Iwiny player missed the goal from a few metres.
Stung by conceding, the fourth-tier side set about reducing the deficit. Sławomir Pełdiak equalised at 1–1. Warta had the advantage, controlled the game and exchanged passes, but scoring another goal was not easy at all. The visitors lacked finishing accuracy. There were many off-target shots. The Iwiny goalkeeper also stood in the way of goal several times. Eventually, after a fine team move, Marcin Głowacki increased the lead to 2–1.
In the second half, the hosts clearly ran out of energy. The visitors did not push the pace particularly hard either, waiting for the right opportunity. Jacek Kapecki made it 3–1, and just when it seemed that further goals for Warta were only a matter of time, Norbert Znyk scored to bring the hosts back into the game. However, the final word belonged to the visitors. Sławomir Pełdiak set the final score at 4–2. GKS Iwiny – GKS Warta Bolesławiecka 2–4 (1–2).
There was no surprise in Iwiny. There was one in Zebrzydowa, however, where local side Sparta, who play in the regional league, defeated another fourth-tier newcomer, Nysa Zgorzelec, 3–1 (2–0). Sparta’s goals were scored by: Robert Kumoś, Paweł Wilk and Patryk Kumoś.
