– Construction of Poland’s largest ceramic jug will begin on 1 August. The approximately 4 m-tall jug will be a grand and splendid commemoration of the traditional ceramic craft associated with Bolesławiec – reports Mateusz Grobelny, a ceramic artist and creator of unique ceramic kilns that are often sculptures at the same time. The old “Great Jug” by master Joppe, which for a long time was a historic monument and symbol of the city, was undoubtedly an inspiration.

– The “Bolesławiec Jug” will emphasise the character of the city and will simultaneously be the largest ceramic jug in Poland fired in a wood-fired kiln – the artist assures us. The “Bolesławiec Jug” will be fired at a high temperature and glazed in the colours most characteristic of Bolesławiec.

The creation of the work can be observed in the square in Bolesławiec’s market square. The kiln firing finale and the first opportunity to see the “Bolesławiec Jug” will take place on 21 August during the Bolesławiec Ceramic Festival. Until then, we can keep our fingers crossed for a happy ending, so that the completed work can serve as a symbol and ornament of Bolesławiec for many years.

During the most recent session, on 20 July, councillors of Bolesławiec City Council adopted budget amendments that, among other things, enable the conclusion of an agreement with the artist for the construction of the kiln and the possible purchase of the completed work.
