Deputy Piotr Roman referred to a speech by Anna Zalewska, Minister of National Education. – It showed us the direction of changes in Bolesławiec’s education system as well. These changes are heading toward the abolition of gymnasiums – said Kornel Filipowicz. – In practical terms for Bolesławiec, this will involve changing the organisational structure of our education system. Since gymnasiums will disappear, we will have to change the structure of the schools: only primary schools will remain.
He added: – The minister stated that gymnasiums were more of a failure than a success and that they had a disintegrating effect. I dare say that here we managed to integrate young people from the city and surrounding areas. As a result, this flower of youth blossomed beautifully for us.
The deputy mayor emphasised that the city’s gymnasiums achieved their highest result in their history this year. Our schools performed 4% better than the provincial average. The same was true of the humanities and mathematics-and-science sections. In some subjects, students at the city’s gymnasiums achieved results close to those of students at private schools. – So it happened that gymnasiums are coming to an end while we are achieving our best results – K. Filipowicz concluded. – The principal, Maria Subik, [szefowa Gimnazjum Samorządowego nr 2 – przyp. „ii”] looks at me sadly. This is the only gymnasium that is not part of any municipal school complex and will probably be dissolved.

Let us recall that during the “The Mayor Invites You” ceremony, a phenomenal musical performed by students of Municipal Gymnasium No. 2 in Bolesławiec (with live music and a guest appearance by the phenomenal blues guitarist Wojciech Szajwaj) was presented. Directed by Małgorzata Janowska, Justyna Rapa and Ewa Ołenicz-Bernacka, the performance proved to be a wise and warm story about freedom and tolerance.
