In previous years, this requirement applied only from October to the end of February. It is estimated that the cost of using dipped headlights continuously will amount to between PLN 100 and 200 per year for a passenger car driver. However, Transport Minister Jerzy Polaczek believes that the amendment will reduce the number of accidents on Polish roads. It is worth adding that the obligation to drive with lights on around the clock is in force in 13 European countries. Scandinavians and Canadians also drive with dipped headlights on all year round.

The amendment to the road traffic law also sets out rules for driving in tunnels. In a tunnel longer than 500 metres, drivers of vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes and bus drivers should maintain a distance of at least 50 metres from the vehicle in front. For vehicles weighing more than 3.5 tonnes, this distance is 80 metres.
