One of the items on the City Council’s June session agenda was reports on the financial situation of municipal companies, including the Municipal Transport Company. Its president, Andrzej Jagiera, spoke about the company’s condition. Platforma Samorządowa councillor Piotr Klasa asked A. Jagiera about connections to Otok, Brzeźnik and Kruszyn II (localities belonging to the Bolesławiec municipality). The head of the municipal company replied that the services had been suspended solely for the summer holidays, but they might possibly be discontinued altogether.
“There is no school, and there are fewer passengers. This is not due to malice, but to economics,” „ii” Andrzej Jagiera explained. “The timetable will probably return after the holidays, but in fact, ultimately these connections may no longer operate.”
Why? First, it is not known whether the City Council will adopt a resolution on free public transport, as announced by President Piotr Roman. (This was one of the incumbent president’s campaign promises; we wrote about it in the article Free public transport? It is possible, but not earlier than in three years). “If that happens, there will probably be no services to localities in the Bolesławiec municipality, because it would not be profitable,” emphasizes the head of the Municipal Transport Company. “Unless an agreement is reached between the urban municipality and the Bolesławiec municipality.”
Second, a new provision concerning public-service transport is scheduled to enter into force on January 1, 2017. Among other things, the County will select the operator for each route. Consequently, it may turn out that MZK will not be chosen.
We will return to this matter.
