In this incident, which resulted in a pile-up involving a total of seven cars, two people died. The accident occurred on the carriageway leading towards Wrocław after the driver of a Volvo truck with a trailer carrying an excavator lost control of the vehicle and began turning sharply to the left, towards the opposite carriageway.

During this maneuver, he hit the rear of a VW Passat that was overtaking him at the time. Then, after smashing through the crash barrier separating the two motorway carriageways, he entered the opposite carriageway and hit a Ford Focus passenger car traveling correctly.

As a result of severe multiple-organ injuries, the 43-year-old driver and the 30-year-old passenger died. After the passenger car collided with the Volvo, a Scania truck traveling towards Legnica crashed into the Volvo trailer carrying the excavator. A MAN truck stopped behind it, braking sharply, and was then hit by a Skoda Roomster passenger car. The driver of an Opel Astra, also traveling towards Legnica, managed to avoid a collision with another vehicle by driving between the barriers previously smashed by the Volvo.

Due to the complex nature of the case, all people who witnessed the accident, especially its initial phase, or who have recordings of the incident or part of it made with dashboard cameras or mobile phones are asked to come forward.
