“Junes are increasingly very hot, while children go to school almost until the end of the month,” says „ii” Jadwiga Bobek, chairwoman of TPD in Bolesławiec. “And then grandmothers and grandfathers escort their grandchildren home at midday. I myself saw a grandmother escorting a child in such heat. This year is not the worst, but there have been years when temperatures reached 30 degrees in June. It was so hot that teachers and students could not cope, and learning was not progressing.
The school year, the head of TPD emphasizes, could end in mid-June and begin, for example, on August 20. “The days are already cooler in August,” she adds.
The woman from Bolesławiec met with representatives of the former Ministry of Science and Higher Education and presented them with this proposal. She was told that it would be difficult and would involve rescheduling the dates of the final secondary-school examinations.
