We also encourage you to read a short interview that GKS Warta Bolesławiecka coach — Krzysztof Kaliciak — gave to Portal Istotne.pl.

Editorial staff: GKS Warta Bolesławiecka in the fourth division on the anniversary of coach Krzysztof Kaliciak beginning his work at the club. An incredible gift. Are you satisfied?

Krzysztof Kaliciak: The satisfaction is enormous. A year ago, I celebrated promotion in Polkowice as a player and assistant coach, but this joy is definitely greater because it was much more difficult to achieve. Especially after the first round, when we were in third place and had around 13 players, including two young players who had to play 90 minutes every match.

How did you come to Warta?

Two days before the first match, I received a call from the president saying that they were looking for a coach. Since Zbyszek resigned for personal reasons, and I had just been forced to stop playing football professionally because of an Achilles injury, I took up coaching and became president of
Orzeł Zagrodno, but above all, I had already been thinking about coaching much earlier.

What is the way to win promotion after coaching for one year?

Winning matches (laughs). Many things contribute to it. Above all, trust in the coach, in his concept and tactical assumptions for matches, as well as focused work in training. I adopted the principle that, with two training sessions a week, I train the way I want us to play in matches. Therefore, there was no running without the ball, because I consider it a waste of time in amateur football. Instead, I devoted a lot of time to tactics: how to move in specific positions and what formation to adopt if, for example, we assume that the goalkeeper starts the play, all the way through to the end of the action.

In the first round, we mainly played on the counterattack because we had few substitutes. In the second round, good players joined us, and I changed our tactics to constant pressing and positional attacks. During the main part of training, I devoted the most time to this and to building a positive atmosphere within the team and throughout the club. We managed to accomplish many things thanks to the commitment of the entire team and the whole board. I do not hide the fact that I benefited greatly as a player from training alongside coach Nawałka, and I often draw inspiration from him, but most of that can only be transferred to professional football.

What next? Will you remain at the club in Warta?

Talks are ongoing. I am now beginning the UEFA A course, which is necessary to manage a team in the fourth division, and if nothing unusual happens, I will be Warta’s coach. I received one interesting phone call, but it is not the right time yet, because I still have a lot to learn.

The fourth division is a higher, but also more demanding, level of competition. Will there be reinforcements?

I would like 90% of the players to experience the fourth division, even at the expense of results, because most of them have never played at that level. As for reinforcements, I only want to sign a goalkeeper and a player who is good at defensive work, although of course something positive—or the opposite—could happen.

What would you like to say to the readers of the Istotne.pl portal at the end of this short conversation?

That they should spend more time being active than sitting at computers and on their phones. I had the opportunity to teach today’s young people in a lower secondary school, and things are not heading in the right direction.

Thank you for the interview. We congratulate you, the team, officials and fans, and wish you success.

No, thank you, because we still have one very difficult match left, and only after it will we be able to say what kind of season it was.
