On June 9, at around 11 p.m., the duty officer at the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters informed the duty officer at the Kowary Police Station that a 19-year-old resident of Kowary might be planning to commit suicide. The boy’s mother, who had spoken with him by phone, provided this information. The teenager was in poor mental condition.
The duty officer from Kowary contacted him by phone. The man denied having suicidal thoughts, but the duty officer sensed that the 19-year-old was lying and invited him to the police station for a conversation.
During the conversation at the police station, the teenager was agitated and had rapidly changing moods. At one point, he pulled a machete from under his jacket. He began waving it and threatening to commit suicide. He then ran out of the police station and fled home. Police officers followed him, but the man would not let them in. He continued threatening to take his own life.
The officers then decided to break down the door. As they entered, the man jumped out of a window and began to run away. After a while, the uniformed officers found him in the riverbed.
The 19-year-old was placed under medical care.
