– Passers-by pulled four kittens wrapped in several plastic shopping bags out of the Kaczawa River. Unfortunately, despite the immediate action taken by our officers and a veterinarian, the chilled animals could not be saved – says Jacek Śmigielski, spokesperson for the Municipal Police. – Hopefully, this is not the start of a grim series. Before the holidays, people get rid of animals, often in a cruel way.
By the end of May this year, the Municipal Police’s specialist patrol had carried out nearly 200 interventions involving animals. As many as 126 concerned abandoned or lost animals. Officers took them to shelters or designated veterinary clinics.
It is very heartening that many of us are not indifferent to the mistreatment of defenseless animals. All it takes is notifying the appropriate services so that the victims can receive prompt help.
