We wrote about the meeting in the article German President in the Neisse-Nisa-Nysa Euroregion. The three heads of Euroregion Nysa, including Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman, met with Joachim Gauck.
The meeting had two parts. The first took place in Zittau, where they discussed, among other things, problems facing the Euroregion, including railway connections. “President Gauck expressed great interest in the issue of continuing the reconstruction of the Wrocław–Berlin connection,” Piotr Roman said during the May session of the City Council.
The second part of the meeting with J. Gauck took place in Görlitz. As it turned out, it was not without incident. “We had a vase there for the president, produced for the occasion by our Artistic Ceramics company,” the mayor recounted.
That was when the services protecting the head of the German state stepped in. “They did not want to let us in. We waited for specially trained dogs, which had to sniff the vase very thoroughly,” P. Roman recalled with a laugh. “We did not take it as anything negative,” Agnieszka Gergont, spokeswoman for the Bolesławiec municipal office, added in a conversation with “ii”. “Quite the opposite: it was a kind of attraction for us.”
Of course, in the end, the vase made it into the hands of the German president.
