Let us recall: the notorious accident took place on Wednesday, 27 August 2014, on the road between Dobra (Bolesławiec gmina) and Kliczków (Osiecznica gmina). The motorcyclist Mateusz B. lost a leg (he now wears a prosthesis).
The injured man was transported by helicopter to hospital. As witnesses to the incident told us at the time, the man had tried to overtake several cars at once.
One might think that after such an accident, B. would come to his senses and tone things down a little. Nothing could be further from the truth. A video has just appeared on YouTube showing the man driving recklessly in a passenger car. (The video bears the telling title “Bolesławiec Idiot in an Opel Astra”.)
The offender has even acquired a nickname—the Rice King of the Roads. What is more, he posted a photo of a new motorcycle on his Facebook profile. He captioned it: “You Gotta F***ing Speed”.
The man is well known to the Bolesławiec police, and not only to traffic officers. Apparently, he became active again several weeks ago. As many as nine cases are pending against B., and in April alone two applications to punish him were sent to court. The police, however, cannot revoke his driving licence; only a court can do that.
Importantly, the Bolesławiec offender receives no special treatment. “Every time we uncover an offence, we take action and hold him accountable for it,” emphasizes Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, spokesperson for the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters. And since the man has already established a “reputation,” each case ends with another application being submitted to court.
What could be the outcome of this story? If the court imposes a driving ban on B. and he violates it, he could face up to three years in prison. Let us hope he does not cause a tragedy before then.
We will return to this subject.
