This year’s congress was dominated by two events. The first was the presence of the Commissioner for Human Rights, PhD Adam Bodnar, who delivered the congress’s keynote lecture, entitled “Seniors’ Right to Independent Living and Social Integration – A Challenge for the Local Community.” The second important feature of the congress was a debate with representatives of the Government of the Basque Country on initiatives friendly to all age groups.

Certificates for Senior-Friendly Municipalities were also presented during the congress. This distinction is awarded by a committee comprising the congress organizers: the Foundation for the Development of Local Democracy and the Polish Gerontological Society.

The City of Bolesławiec was among the municipalities honored with a Senior-Friendly Municipality certificate. The prestigious distinction for Bolesławiec was accepted by Beata Sulska, head of the Social Affairs Department of Bolesławiec City Hall.
