The slogan “Bolesławiec, the city of ceramics” has never been more relevant. Researchers from the “Attyka” Archaeological, Conservation and Architectural Workshop discovered a unique assemblage of ceramics. The aforementioned pitcher with a bow-shaped handle, dating from the 13th century, has survived intact, along with fragments of other vessels. The vessels found are characteristic of 13th-century ceramics from Bohemia and Lusatia. Nevertheless, some elements were made in a manner still typical of the more traditional Polish pottery of that period.

The name “Bolesławiec” first appeared in documents in 1202, meaning that the finds date from the very beginnings of our town’s formation! Until now, the oldest record confirming that a pottery industry existed and was developing in Bolesławiec was an entry in the municipal books of Świdnica, where the name of the Bolesławiec potter Hanno Zeidenberg appears. This record dates from 1380.

Archaeological research is still ongoing.
