Let us recall: during the proceedings, it was established that Samuel N., a resident of Kamienna Góra, was declared unemployed without the right to benefits by a decision of the Kamienna Góra county head dated 29 July 2015. He familiarised himself with the contents of this decision on 18 August 2015.
The following day, in the late morning, he left home, taking an axe with him, which he concealed in a dark plastic bag. He went to the building of the County Labour Office, located on Sienkiewicza Street in Kamienna Góra, which he left after a brief and firm exchange of words with an employee of the office.
He then headed towards the market square. Passing near the Atena bookshop, he took the axe out of the shopping bag and attacked a 10-year-old girl who was entering it with her mother, striking her in the back of the head. He then discarded the weapon and began to flee.
Several minutes later, he was detained by witnesses to the incident and handed over to the police. The girl, in very serious condition, was flown by helicopter to hospital, where she died despite the doctors’ resuscitation efforts.
The cause of death of Kamila Cz. was injuries sustained as a result of the blow to the head with the axe.
Questioned as a suspect, Samuel N. admitted committing the crime and explained that his anger had been building because he had been having problems finding work for some time. Moreover, on 18 August 2015 he received a decision stating that he was not entitled to unemployment benefits. He went to the County Labour Office to take revenge on the officials because he had received no help there. Since there were many people in the building, he abandoned his plan. He went out into the street and headed towards the city centre. Seeing a little girl entering the bookshop, he struck her with the axe.
A verdict was handed down in the case on 25 April. As reported by Tvn24.pl, N. was sentenced to life imprisonment. Moreover, he was deprived of public rights for 10 years and will have to pay each of the girl’s parents PLN 100,000 in compensation.
A fair verdict?
