On April 2, we reported that shortly before 7:00 a.m. the police received a report that a parked car with its engine running was standing on Kubika Street. There were two men in the car. An ambulance was also called to the scene. Unfortunately, one of the men, a 25-year-old resident of Żagań, was already dead. The other, a 19-year-old resident of Bolesławiec and a student at II LO, was unconscious. He was taken to hospital.
According to investigators, the most likely cause of the 25-year-old's death and the 19-year-old's loss of consciousness was carbon monoxide poisoning. The car had been running since approximately 1:00 a.m.
On April 4, at the direction of the District Prosecutor's Office in Bolesławiec, police officers and firefighters conducted an experiment— for the first time in a case of this kind. Carbon monoxide detectors were placed in the car, which was then started and closed. After three minutes, the detectors indicated a dangerously lethal carbon monoxide concentration of 1,200 ppm, and shortly afterward they shut off because the scale had been exceeded.
It was probably an unfortunate accident. The 19-year-old is still in a hospital in Wrocław. He has already regained consciousness.
We will return to the subject.
