Officers from the Economic Crime Unit of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters, as a result of operational activities, detained a man suspected of possessing tobacco without Polish excise tax markings.
The detention took place when the suspect arrived for a prearranged meeting with a customer. The 43-year-old resident of Bolesławiec wanted to sell half a kilogram of tobacco. The police first seized 1.5 kg of tobacco and then—after searching the 43-year-old’s apartment and basement—an additional 2.5 kg of tobacco without Polish excise tax markings.
The detained man admitted that the tobacco belonged to him. Had the illegal goods reached the market, the State Treasury could have lost at least several thousand złoty.
The 43-year-old now faces up to three years in prison and substantial financial penalties.
