Foster parents may be people who:

  • provide assurance that they will properly perform foster care, i.e. their conduct to date demonstrates that they will perform this function well
  • have not been deprived of parental authority and have not had it restricted
  • fulfil their maintenance obligations towards their relatives
  • have full legal capacity
  • are capable of providing proper care for a child, as confirmed by certificates issued by a primary care physician stating that there are no health-related contraindications to performing the duties of a foster family or running a family children's home
  • reside in the territory of the Republic of Poland
  • are able to provide suitable living and housing conditions enabling the child to meet their individual needs (including needs related to development, education and developing interests, rest and organising free time). In the case of a non-professional foster family, at least one person forming that family must have a permanent source of income, such as employment income or a pension
  • candidates may not have been convicted by a final court judgment of an intentional offence or an intentional fiscal offence. This criterion applies to candidates for non-professional or professional foster families and family children's homes (RDD).
