Our residents clearly prefer Polish romantic comedies to major Hollywood productions. In Bolesławiec, the low attendance for “Fifty Shades of Grey” is a positive surprise compared with the popularity of a film featuring a host of excellent Polish actors. “Letters to M. 2, or Short Love Stories” was watched at Forum by almost 8,000 viewers last year. The Bolesławiec hit in the less well-attended 2014 was the Polish war drama about the Warsaw insurgents, “Miasto 44,” which attracted more than 6,000 viewers.
Letters to M. 2 outperformed “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” (almost 6,000 viewers) and “The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” (almost 4,000 viewers).
Ewa Chrobot, who works with distributors at BOK-MCC, says that cooperation is going very well, although the film-screening conditions must be followed very strictly. This is why so many films are shown as premieres at Forum.
– That is why we sometimes show one title in the large auditorium for two weeks, as was the case with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Letters to M. 2 – says Ewa Chrobot. – That was the distributor’s requirement. Fortunately, we have a small auditorium where we can screen other films and thus enrich the program with new titles. Fortunately, good cooperation with distributors also allows for compromises, and thanks to them we can show most film hits – adds the cinema manager.
Forum Cinema (BOK-MCC) cooperates with around twenty film distributors in Poland, including the largest: Disney, Kino Świat, UIP, Warner Bross, Forum Film, Monolith Films, Imperial-Cinepix, Best Film and Next Film. They provide the most interesting films shown at our cinema.
Agnieszka Piech from Kino Świat praises the cinema Forum’s professionalism and confirms that attendance in a city the size of Bolesławiec is truly excellent and remains at a high level.
Ewa Chrobot believes that the impressive attendance is primarily due to an interesting and varied program, premieres of the biggest cinematic hits of each season, ticket promotions (Cheap Wednesday: a PLN 14 ticket; a special holiday and school-break offer: tickets costing no more than PLN 10; and films at DKF, where a film can be seen for PLN 5 with a pass), surprises for viewers in the form of competitions, and certainly friendly service and an inexpensive café with fresh popcorn and excellent coffee.
– The most difficult thing is meeting the expectations of all viewers, because it is hard to choose just one or two premieres a week from ten proposals – says Ewa Chrobot. – It is also difficult to decide in which auditorium a film should be shown; obviously, most people prefer the large auditorium. Some viewers, however, prefer the small auditorium because food and drinks are prohibited there, which significantly improves the comfort of watching a film.
Asked which premieres and film surprises await viewers during the spring season at Forum cinema, Ewa Chrobot announces that at the end of March there will be advance screenings of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice”; in April, the long-awaited film “Smoleńsk” and Disney’s latest production, “The Jungle Book,” will be shown. In May, the sequel to the hit “Avengers: Age of Ultron” – “Captain America: Civil War” – will appear, along with the animated film “Angry Birds”.
