On 3 March 2016, the ceremonial presentation of the Mayor of Bolesławiec’s awards for promoting the city in 2015 took place in the auditorium of the “Forum” cinema at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre. The awards are granted for outstanding achievements in artistic creation, the dissemination and protection of culture, the development of science, and outstanding sporting results.

Awards in the fields of science, culture, social activity and sport are granted by the Mayor of Bolesławiec, upon the application of authorised entities and after consulting the Education, Culture and Sport Committee of the Bolesławiec City Council. The awards are commemorated with a statuette. Award winners also receive a financial prize.

For particularly valuable social initiatives that contribute to promoting the city, the Mayor of Bolesławiec grants honorary awards. An honorary award is commemorated with a statuette. Mayor of Bolesławiec Piotr Roman presented 28 awards and one distinction in recognition of special merits in promoting the city in 2015. The award winners are:

Honorary awards

  1. University of the Third Age in Bolesławiec. The University of the Third Age in Bolesławiec was established on 13 October 2007 and is affiliated with the Wrocław University of Economics – Faculty of Economics, Management and Tourism in Jelenia Góra. The University of the Third Age aims, among other things, to promote the idea of lifelong learning and to enable and facilitate older people’s access to the achievements of modern science and technology, counteract the social and digital exclusion of seniors by increasing their participation in public life, and effectively promote volunteering. The classes also facilitate access to all forms of intellectual and physical activity, according to age, fitness level and interests. Its diverse programme is tailored to the expectations and needs of its students. The University of the Third Age in Bolesławiec offers, among other things, foreign-language classes, computer training, rehabilitative gymnastics, dance exercises, painting, music and psychology workshops, lectures, integration events, and sightseeing trips. The University’s students lead active lives and know how to preserve their youth and good spirits for as long as possible.
  2. “Manufaktura” Stoneware Factory General Partnership Smoleński & Zwierz. Operating for 20 years, the Bolesławiec family business “Manufaktura” Stoneware Factory consistently pursues a strategy of creating a design in Bolesławiec ceramics understood as combining the tradition of handmade ceramic production and decoration with new design trends, while involving recognised contemporary artists in its work. The broad dissemination of new Bolesławiec ceramics designs among experts, connoisseurs and specialists, at exhibitions and trade fairs, promotes not only the designers and “Manufaktura” but also the city of Bolesławiec in Europe and around the world as a place where centuries-old tradition is creatively and skilfully used in the contemporary world. “Manufaktura’s” cooperation with recognised contemporary artists and its consistent introduction of modern design into Bolesławiec ceramics resulted in many successes, and 2015 was particularly rich in them. Notable achievements included the presentation of the company’s products at the largest international EXPO 2015 fair in Milan and qualification for “The Trends presentation” at Ambiente in Frankfurt. During the 2015 World Expo in Milan, the Polish Pavilion hosted the conference “Meetings with Polish Design – Tradition and Modernity”, organised by the Polish Agency for Enterprise Development. One of the speakers was Paweł Zwierz, who delivered a lecture devoted to Bolesławiec ceramics and the collections prepared by “Manufaktura Bolesławiec”, presented at the “La Magnifica Forma” exhibition held as part of HOMI Milano 2015.
  3. Artistic Ceramics Artistic Handicraft Cooperative in Bolesławiec. The Artistic Handicraft Cooperative “Artistic Ceramics” is an establishment that fully draws on the finest traditions of Bolesławiec ceramics. Artistic Ceramics exports 90% of its products to 25 countries worldwide, while its unique designs receive awards at trade fairs in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Frankfurt am Main, New York and Tokyo. Artistic Ceramics is one of the few Polish companies with its own branded stores in Japan. The visit of the Japanese Ambassador, Mr Makoto Yamanaka, to Artistic Ceramics in 2015 demonstrated the exceptional popularity of Bolesławiec ceramics in the Far East.
  4. Cyprian Kamil Norwid Municipal Public Library in Bolesławiec. The library was established on 27 November 1945 as the first library in Bolesławiec and the third in Lower Silesia. In 1995, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, it was named after Cyprian Kamil Norwid. In 2015, it celebrated its 70th anniversary. The collections of the Municipal Public Library in Bolesławiec comprise around 130,000 volumes, while the number of readers is approximately 13,000, representing about 30% of Bolesławiec’s population. In addition to lending and reading services, the Bolesławiec library organises meetings with authors, artists and travellers and serves as a meeting place for residents, exhibitions and vernissages.

Awards in science

  1. Edyta Czernigiewicz. Ms Edyta Czernigiewicz has worked for many years at Municipal Public Kindergarten No. 7. Her high level of education and continuous work on her own development enable her to achieve very good results in educational and child-rearing work. Her wide-ranging efforts to obtain external funding deserve particular recognition. She is the author and coordinator of Polish-Czech projects co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund and by the state budget: “Preschoolers Play Theatre” and “Creative Preschoolers”. Ms Edyta Czernigiewicz is also the author of the project “Autism – Help Understand the World”, which will be implemented as part of the project “Mobility of School Education Staff”, financed by the European Social Fund under the Knowledge Education Development Operational Programme.
  2. Monika Marusiak. A student at Władysław Broniewski General Secondary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec. In the 2014/2015 school year, she actively participated in the school’s academic competition programme, achieving high places nationally and internationally. On 3 July 2015, she took part in the final of the Aliante 2015 International NATO Knowledge Competition, held in Kaunas, Lithuania, and became a finalist. She was a finalist in the third-stage competition of the 25th National Olympiad of Catholic Theology, the nationwide German-language “Turbolandeskunde” competition and the Polish-Ukrainian Physics Competition “LWIĄTKO 2015”, where she received the “taon” title. She also took first place in the Lower Silesian Physics Competition for first-year students of upper-secondary schools.
  3. Piotr Marecki. A former third-year student of Władysław Broniewski General Secondary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec in the 2014/2015 school year. He actively participated in the school’s academic competition programme, achieving high positions at the national level. In Warsaw, he competed in the central stage of the 64th Physics Olympiad and became a finalist; in the Polish-Ukrainian Physics Competition “LWIĄTKO 2015”, he received the “kaon” title and won second place. He took part in the final of the seventh edition of the ELEKTRON competition organised by Wrocław University of Technology’s Faculty of Microsystem Electronics and Photonics, achieving a very good result.
  4. Team of teachers from Municipal School Complex No. 1, comprising: Agnieszka Mikiciuk, Anna Skrabucha, Iwona Orawiec, Katarzyna Olkuska. For many years, foreign-language teachers at Municipal School Complex No. 1 have organised events at the institution aimed at developing students’ language skills, including Foreign Language Days, theatre performances, a language quiz and a Festival of Christmas Songs in Foreign Languages. The language projects have resulted in high scores achieved by students both in the sixth-grade test and in the lower-secondary German and English examinations. In 2015, as part of Foreign Language Day celebrations, the teachers prepared a music video for their students. After it was shared on the Municipal School Complex No. 1 fan page, the video gained nationwide attention. Major television stations, radio broadcasters and internet portals became interested in it. TVN produced a report featuring the teachers, which was broadcast during the evening “Fakty” news programme, while TVN24 broadcast a live report from the school on “Wstajesz i wiesz”.
  5. Team of GS No. 3 teachers, comprising: Katarzyna Zięba, Monika Kalinowska, Ewa Kuczyńska, Anna Chabiniak, Błażej Dzikowski. A team of teachers who, as volunteers, carried out the international Erasmus+ project “Small Projects of Great Enthusiasts”. Young people from Bolesławiec, Prnjavor in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Troyan in Bulgaria, and Vallecorsa and Acuto in Italy took part in the project. The project focused, among other things, on uncovering the mysteries of the world, the role of science in everyday life, respect for the natural environment, discovering, supporting and developing talents in different cultures, and overcoming language barriers. Project participants worked in international groups via the internet, exploring topics in the exact sciences while also considering their links with other areas of life and art. They presented the results of their work during the Small Projects Festival, organised at the “Orzeł” Cultural Integration Centre in Bolesławiec.

Awards in culture

  1. Przemysław Kania. A young filmmaker and recipient of numerous distinctions, including for the film “Bolesławiec’s Cursed Soldiers” in the nationwide competition “Cursed Soldiers – Unbroken Heroes”; in the competition promoting the principles of savoir-vivre, “From Ignorant to Elegant”; and for the film about Bolesławiec’s Siberian exiles, “An Open Chapter of Life”. At the fifth “Unbowed, Unbroken, Cursed” Documentary Film Festival in Gdynia, Przemysław Kania qualified for the “Young for History” competition. The festival screened the self-documentary film “Me and History”, filmed in Bolesławiec, Wrocław and Lithuania. He won sixth place at the PKO OFF CAMERA International Film Festival in the “Take It and Shoot – Show the Music” competition for the music video for Damian Ukeje’s song “This Is Not That World”. He received the “Young Hawk of Bolesławiec” award, granted to the ten best graduates of Municipal Lower-Secondary School No. 2 named after Poles Deported to Siberia in Bolesławiec in 2015, as well as the “Talent 2015” award granted to primary- and lower-secondary-school students for outstanding achievements. He directed the films “Awakening”, which won the second edition of the “Thank You, I Don’t Smoke” competition, the “Eco-Mafia” trilogy and “Dream”. From 2013 to 2015, he headed the “Gim2TV” Lower-Secondary School Television.
  2. Anna Bober-Tubaj. Director of the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec. Co-organiser and initiator of Bolesławiec events connected with the 35th anniversary of the founding of NSZZ “Solidarity” in Bolesławiec. In 2015, she actively conducted research into Bolesławiec ceramics and the city’s history, establishing cooperation, among others, with Professor Charles Mack, a lecturer at the University of South Carolina and the best-known American researcher of Bolesławiec ceramics. Ms Anna Bober-Tubaj also cooperates with directors of other museums, including Dr Jane Przybysz, director of the McKissick Museum at the University of South Carolina, who conducts comprehensive research in the United States and Poland into, among other things, Bolesławiec stoneware produced by the “Artistic Ceramics” Artistic Handicraft Cooperative; Anita Kongssund, curator at Nasjonalmuseet for Kunst, Architektur of Design (The National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design) in Oslo; and the Schlesisches Museum zu Goerlitz. She is also involved in work on a book about contemporary Bolesławiec stoneware being prepared in Japan. Ms Anna Bober-Tubaj is the author and co-author of numerous publications, articles and studies.
  3. Stanisława Wojda-Pytlińska. Instructor at the Art Studio – Academy of Art at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre. In 2015, her students received distinctions in eight competitions, including two national and six international competitions. Some works were recognised internationally as the only entries from Poland. Among the achievements in 2015, particular attention should be paid to six winners in the international “Europa in der Schule” competition, three winners in the Pentel competition at the 45th International Competition in Japan, four winners in the 13th National Art Competition “Europe, Our Common Home”, a winner of the nationwide competition “International Space Station – Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow”, an honorary distinction at the 43rd edition of the International Children’s Art Exhibition in Lidice, Czech Republic, a distinction in the International Art Competition “Journeys of Dreams: This Is My Mexico”, organised by the Embassy of Mexico, and a distinction in The 16th International Environmental Children’s Drawing Contest Tokyo in Japan.
  4. Kamilla Dudek. A German teacher at the Electronic Schools Complex in Bolesławiec. For many years, she has been interested in the culture and history of Bolesławiec and Lower Silesia. In 2015, Ms Kamilla Dudek prepared the publication “Everything Was Different Here. Memories of Bolesławiec Re-emigrants from France”, published by the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec. For many years, Kamilla has organised and participated in exchanges and international projects incorporating content promoting Bolesławiec’s cultural heritage. In the GESZKO project, she developed the module “The Culture of the Region as Our Inspiration”, in which Polish and German students explored the history of Bolesławiec in the context of its artistic and ceramic traditions. For more than 10 years in her professional work, she has organised numerous classes on regional subjects, incorporating them into the educational programme and introducing them as modifications to the German-language curriculum, including lessons on Bolesławiec’s history: “Passing”, “Along the Baroque Trail”, “Bolesławiec – I Live Here”, “Bolesławiec for Tourists”, “Epitaphs on the Walls of Bolesławiec’s Minor Basilica”, “Martin Opitz – Son of Bolesławiec”, “Reading Old City Chronicles”, and the educational project “The Identity of a Lower Silesian”. In 2011, her master’s thesis, “Bolesławiec Painted in Words and Images”, received a distinction in the fifth edition of the Competition for the Mayor of Bolesławiec’s Award for the Best Master’s or Doctoral Thesis on the History and Present of Bolesławiec.
  5. Elżbieta Erban. Ms Elżbieta Erban has lived in Bolesławiec for 70 years. In 1989, she won first prize in a nationwide literary competition for settlers’ memoirs from the Western and Northern Territories. The essay “Through a Child’s Eyes” was printed in the Rzeszów monthly “Profile”, in the magazine “Karkonosze” and read on Wrocław Radio. For this work, she received an honorary membership card of the Society of Bolesławiec Enthusiasts. Gazeta Wrocławska printed her story “Christmas Eve”. In 2011, she received first prize for outstanding epistolary qualities in a nationwide competition for epistolary drama, judged by a committee of writers from the Polish Writers’ Association in Szczecin. She is a regular writer and correspondent for the Szczecin monthly “OSTRÓG”; her historical articles have been printed in the monthly “KRESY”. She runs a blog online where she publishes articles on historical and political topics. In 2013, she was a member of the Bolesławiec Council for Seniors during its second term. In 2015, Ms Elżbieta Erban published the three-volume historical social novel “Lovers of the Storm”, concerning the turbulent period of the January Uprising.
  6. Agora Bookshop – Józefa and Mieczysław Witas. In 2015, Agora Bookshop celebrated its 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, it organised an anniversary meeting attended by the renowned literary critic and essayist Professor Andrzej Zawada. Agora Bookshop is located in the Market Square, in the former premises of the nineteenth-century Appun publishing house. Thanks to the efforts of the Witas family, the work of Karol Fryderyk Appun and his son was commemorated with a plaque unveiled in 2015. For 25 years, the bookshop’s owners have actively participated in the cultural life of the city, the region and Poland. Ms Józefa Witas received the two most important distinctions for her work. In a competition for the most active bookshop, the Polish Chamber of Books honoured Bolesławiec’s Agora with the title “Reading Promotion Master”. Ms Józefa was also honoured with the Ikar, an award of the publishing and bookselling industry, which she accepted together with Father Twardowski at Agnieszka Osiecka’s studio. Guests invited by the bookshop included such well-known authors as Tadeusz Różewicz, Father Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski, Jan Miodek, Tymoteusz Karpowicz, Italian director Giuseppe Recchią, sailor Henryk Baranowski and Jan Choroszy. One of the most interesting cultural events was a limerick competition organised by Józefa Witas. Among her many achievements, the commemorative “Mickiewicz-Pushkin” medal, which the owner of Agora Bookshop received in 2008, must be mentioned. The Honorary Award of the Association for Poland–East Cooperation was granted to the Bolesławiec resident for her contribution to promoting cultural cooperation with the East.

Awards in social activity

  1. Maria Subik. Director of Municipal Lower-Secondary School No. 2 named after Poles Deported to Siberia in Bolesławiec, who has been actively involved for many years in commemorating events connected with Poland’s recent history and in patriotic education. The school cooperates with numerous institutions, local associations and social groups, including the Bolesławiec branch of the Association of Siberians, the Society of Lovers of Lviv and the South-Eastern Borderlands in Bolesławiec, and the Bolesławiec Field Office of NSZZ “Solidarity”. Since 2013, it has implemented the “Save from Oblivion” programme, under which publications devoted to individual groups of repatriates who arrived in Bolesławiec after the Second World War are published. Thanks to Ms Maria Subik’s efforts, the fifth National Congress of Directors of Schools and Institutions and Presidents of Associations named in commemoration of exiles to Siberia was organised in Bolesławiec in 2015, with more than 80 people from 43 schools and organisations across Poland attending. One of the most important elements of the congress was the promotion of the book “Together We Remember More. Initiatives of Schools, Institutions and Associations Connected with Learning about the History of Siberians and Passing It On to Present and Future Generations”, created through Ms Maria Subik’s commitment.
  2. Kazimierz Surma. Mr Kazimierz Surma is employed at the Municipal Public Library in Bolesławiec. At this institution, he initiated and developed educational activities for older Bolesławiec residents on computer use and internet access, benefiting approximately 200 people. The Senior Academy enjoys an excellent reputation, and the number of applicants continues to grow. The Municipal Library regularly hosts meetings of the INTELIK Internet Circle of Library Friends, enabling seniors to creatively develop their skills and interests using internet technologies. In response to seniors’ needs, he creates and publishes instructional videos on various popular topics. Instructional videos about the WLMM video editor, prepared by Kazimierz Surma for seniors, are used by the Foundation for the Development of the Education System for teachers throughout Poland as part of the eTwinning platform. Mr Kazimierz’s activities aim to activate older people, for example through Literary May Picnics and regular Photographic Walks.

Awards in sport

  1. Kacper Grela. A student at Władysław Broniewski General Secondary School No. 1 in Bolesławiec. An International FIDE Master and a member of the Polish Junior National Team. In 2015, he received a distinction from the Lower Silesian Superintendent of Education at the “Olympian 2015” Gala. He was a winner and scholarship holder of the “zDolny Ślązak” scholarship programme of the Foundation for International Education. His major achievements in 2015 included winning the gold medal and the title of Polish Champion at the Individual Polish Junior Chess Championships for players up to 16 years old, winning a bronze medal at the Junior Ekstraliga Team Championships with the Polonia Wrocław Chess Club, placing tenth at the European U18 Junior Team Championships with the Polish national team, placing 19th at the European U16 Junior Individual Championships in Croatia, and taking third place at the Open Lower Silesian Rapid Chess Championships.
  2. Oliwia Ziembikiewicz. Oliwia Ziembikiewicz is a highly talented twelve-year-old Muay Thai/Kickboxing fighter from the “GLADIATOR” Combat Sports Club in Bolesławiec. She was selected for the Polish national teams of two federations: the International Federation of Muaythai Amateur (IFMA) and the World Kickboxing Federation (WKF). She currently achieves top places in major national and international competitions. Oliwia’s most important achievements include a gold medal and the title of Polish Champion at the 2015 IFMA Polish Muaythai Championships, the Western Polish Cup, a gold medal and the title of European Champion at the 2015 WKF European Championships in Hungary, and a gold medal and the Polish Cup at the 2015 Polish Open Cup for children and cadets.
  3. Roland Lippik. Mr Roland Lippik is currently the coach of the Polish U15 national team. Under his leadership, the U15 team won the gold medal at the European Championships in Tromsø, Norway. Over the last five years, participants in the classes he conducts have won five gold medals at the Polish Junior Championships. He is a second-class coach who conducts daily sessions with children and young people, and, for the past year, sessions with seniors as part of the “Bridge 60+” programme. He serves as youth coordinator through his work on the board of the Lower Silesian Sport Bridge Association in Wrocław. He holds a similar position in the “Karkonosze” International Sport Bridge Association. He is active nationwide through the work of the Youth Event Organisation Committee at the Main Board of the Polish Bridge Association. He supervises and trains bridge camps and co-organises competitions for Poland’s youth sports bridge teams.
  4. Jacek Gąsieniec. In 2015, he achieved significant success at national competitions. He won a silver medal in singles and a bronze medal in doubles at the ninth National Special Olympics Badminton Tournament, as well as a bronze medal at the ninth National Special Olympics Basketball Tournament. At regional Special Olympics competitions, he won a gold medal in the 4 x 500 m relay at the seventh Lower Silesian Special Olympics Swimming Meet and a gold medal in the 50-metre freestyle at the seventh Lower Silesian Special Olympics Swimming Meet. He participated in the second and third Polish Grand Prix for People with Disabilities in Table Tennis.
  5. Jacek Łuczkowski. Co-founder and president of Bolesławiec Volleyball Association Bolesławiec. As a social activist, he promotes sport, specifically volleyball. He initiated and co-organised two editions of the Bolesławiec Amateur Volleyball League in 2012–2013. He organises annual volleyball tournaments for children, young people and adults from throughout the voivodeship. In the 2014/2015 season, the youth team participated in the Lower Silesian Cadet League organised by the Lower Silesian Volleyball Association in Wrocław. In the first group stage, the team finished third, and in the second stage, fifth. In the 2015/2016 season, the team competes in the Lower Silesian Junior League, the club’s second team competes in the Lower Silesian Cadet League, and the senior BTS Elektros Bolesławiec team finished first in Group A of the Third League.
  6. Ewa Ochocka. An athlete with the “Bolesłavia” Inter-School Sports Club. She has trained in athletics for eight years. Her specialist events are the 100 m hurdles and 400 m hurdles. In the 2015 season, she achieved significant success representing Bolesławiec and the Inter-School Sports Club. She is Polish Champion in the 60 m hurdles and 100 m hurdles and a bronze medallist at the Indoor Polish Championships in the 60 m. She is a member of teams that competed in the Senior Ekstraliga and First Junior League in 2015. Ewa Ochocka is part of the national team training programme and holds a first-class sports rank. Ewa’s coach is Małgorzata Markowska.
  7. Kacper Olszewski. An athlete with the “Bolesłavia” Inter-School Sports Club. He has trained in athletics for six years and specialises in throwing events. He is the Lower Silesian record holder in shot put in the under-16 and under-18 categories. In four years, he has won four Polish Championship medals. For his sporting achievements in 2015, he received a sports scholarship from the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. In 2015, Kacper Olszewski achieved further successes: he became Polish Champion in discus at the Polish Rural Sports Teams Championships; he finished fourth in shot put at the Indoor Polish Championships; at a competition in Bojanowo, Kacper achieved the qualifying standard for the European Junior Championships with a result of 18.71 m in the 6 kg shot put; and he remained the Lower Silesian record holder in shot put in the under-16 and under-18 categories. Kacper is currently part of the national team training programme and holds a first-class sports rank. His coach is Tomasz Markowski.
  8. Anna Guszpil. Ms Anna Guszpil has been associated with the Dolne Młyny Football Tournament since its establishment, first as a participant and then, for the past 15 years, as a co-organiser. She is known for her ability to work in a team, organisational and culinary talent, attention to detail, and the joy she brings to creating an event that now brings together three generations of Bolesławiec residents associated with Dolne Młyny Street. It is a sporting event known throughout the city and Lower Silesia, during which many well-known footballers, top-flight teams and sports stars—not only those associated with football—appear on the pitch. She co-finances the event. Through her business, “Kwiaciarnia u Ani”, she also seeks sponsors, thanks to whom the entire event programme can take place. From the first part of the tournament, in which many children and young people participate and for whom sweets, fruit, drinks, hot sausages and pea soup are prepared, to the full range of delicacies prepared in the second part of the event for guests, sponsors and all other participants.
  9. TOP Bolesławiec. TOP Bolesławiec is currently the largest club in Bolesławiec, with more than 200 members in total. The club currently has five sports sections: table tennis, women’s and men’s volleyball, boxing, racketlon and karate. Athletes from these sections have achieved significant successes in various tournaments and competitions, including first place in the Lower Silesian–Lubusz group of the Second Table Tennis League and promotion to the First League through the play-offs, as well as Marta Syrek’s bronze medal at the Polish Championships for People with Disabilities; three first places and four second places in racketlon tournaments; and several boxing medals at friendly tournaments, notably Krzysztof Słobodzian’s silver medal and Mateusz Słobodzian’s bronze medal at the Lower Silesian Championships. The TOP Bolesławiec Association also operates a socio-therapeutic community centre, the Games and Activities Centre, which is a favourite meeting place for children and young people from Bolesławiec primary and lower-secondary schools.
  10. Bolesłavia Inter-School Sports Club. In November, the Bolesłavia Inter-School Sports Club celebrated the 50th anniversary of its activity. Bolesłavia is a recognised athletics training centre in Lower Silesia and throughout Poland. The club’s most important events and achievements in 2015 included placing 14th in the Senior League Ekstraliga, 11th in the First Junior League, winning seven medals at the Polish Championships for juniors, younger juniors and under-16 athletes, and six medals at the Polish Rural Sports Teams Championships. The club’s athletes won 51 medals at the Lower Silesian Championships in various age categories and 12 at macroregional championships. Sixty-one male and female athletes obtained sports classifications, including six who obtained second-class sports ranks. In the youth sports system, the club scored 165 points. In the under-16 category, the club was the best club in the macroregion. In the competition among Lower Silesian athletics clubs for children and young people, the club placed second, and it ranked 165th in Poland among the 3,372 sports clubs classified by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.

Distinction

Józef Herbut. A poet, musician, founder and member of “Kapela Herbutów”. Since 2014, he has led the choir of the Association of Re-emigrants from Bosnia, Their Descendants and Friends at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre – International Ceramics Centre. The choir has performed at the 15th Festival of South Slavic Culture, the Star of Kindness event, and in Valpovo, Croatia, during ceremonies organised by the “Wisła” Polish Cultural Association and the Association of Re-emigrants from Bosnia, Their Descendants and Friends to mark the 125th anniversary of the arrival in Bosnia and Croatian Slavonia of the first Polish settlers from Galicia. Mr Józef is also the author of many folk and convivial song lyrics and Balkan melodies. He is the author of two poetry collections, “Sentimental Journey” and “Time Gone By”. He wrote the words “May history mark this event on its page: Poles lived on this land for half a century”, placed on a plaque in the church in Prnjavor commemorating Polish settlers who lived in the Prnjavor parishes from 1894 to 1946.
