The Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec has joined this year’s European Capital of Culture programme by organising the exhibition “Where Did We Come From? Bolesławiec Settlers in the 1940s and 1950s”, prepared in cooperation with the Society of Lovers of Lviv and the Southeastern Borderlands, the Association of Returnees from Bosnia, Their Descendants and Friends, and the Bolesławiec branch of the Siberians’ Association.

The aim of the exhibition is to present a picture of post-war Bolesławiec—a city where the fates of people who arrived from various parts of the world became intertwined, including the territories of the former Yugoslavia, the Eastern Borderlands, Siberia, France, Central Poland and other places. The organisers intend to bring visitors closer to the distinct customs and traditions brought from different parts of Europe, show the relationships among the arriving populations and present the process of their adaptation to a new place and new realities.

The organisers therefore kindly ask residents of Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County to lend materials that could be presented in the exhibition: private archival photographs, documents, keepsakes, everyday objects, tools, clothing and household furnishings. Arranged as part of the exhibition, they will tell the story of their owners’ lives before the resettlements, their journey to Poland and the condition of the city after the war.

Materials may be delivered by 15 April 2016 to the Department of the History of the City at the Museum of Ceramics in Bolesławiec, 14 Kutuzowa Street. The exhibition opening is planned for mid-May 2016, during the nationwide Night of Museums. Some events accompanying the exhibition will also take place in June, during the City Days.
